A Life Spent Looking Forward
Sing Sing
For Sing Sing, collecting art was never simply about owning paintings. He believed that somewhere among emerging artists could be the next great Indonesian master, in the spirit of Affandi, Raden Saleh, or Hendra Gunawan.
What defined him was not only his eye for art, but his belief in people. Over the years, he built close friendships with artists, collectors, and curators, and his home became a gathering place for conversations, ideas, and a shared appreciation for art. He was drawn not to reputation or trends, but to talent, character, and potential.
The collection reflects this philosophy. Each work represents a moment when Sing Sing saw something worth believing in, often long before wider recognition arrived. For him, art was deeply human — every painting carried the story of its artist, their ambitions, struggles, and unique way of seeing the world.
His approach was simple: support meaningful artists early, nurture genuine relationships, and allow time to reveal their significance. He believed that great collections are built not by following the market, but by recognizing promise before the rest of the world does.
Today, the collection stands as both a lifelong passion for Indonesian contemporary art and a record of the people, friendships, and convictions that shaped it over the years.
Continuing the Legacy
Sing & Me was created to preserve and share a collection that reflects more than four decades of passion for Indonesian art.
Following Sing Sing's passing in 2024, Mimin felt that the collection should continue to be experienced rather than remain behind closed doors. This website was created to open a window into the artworks, artists, and stories that meant so much to her brother throughout his life.
By making the collection accessible to a wider audience, Sing & Me hopes to encourage greater appreciation for Indonesian art and inspire new generations of collectors, designers, and enthusiasts to discover it for themselves.
At its heart, Sing & Me is a tribute to a lifelong passion and an invitation to continue the conversation that Sing began many years ago.
